Global loss of climatically suitable areas for durum wheat growth in the future

چکیده

Durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) is a minor cereal crop of key importance for making pasta, couscous, burghul, puddings, bread and many other traditional foods, due to its physical chemical characteristics. The global demand high-quality food made has been increasing, which poses challenge in the face climate change. Major share production currently located semi-arid climates, where risk extremes such as drought heat stress will likely substantially increase future. To provide first estimate future arable land climatically suitable growing wheat, we develop suitability model based on support vector machines. current total grow rainfed around 13%. Climate change may decrease area by 19% at mid-century 48% end century. Widespread loss areas foreseen Mediterranean regions northern America. On hand, become central western Europe, while largest gain estimated some parts Russia. overall net requires development adoption effective sustainable strategies stabilize adapt entire supply chain. Our study also clearly demonstrates limiting warming levels well below 2 °C century, would limit areas.

Exploring consensus in 21st century projections of climatically suitable areas for African vertebrates

Africa is predicted to be highly vulnerable to 21st century climatic changes. Assessing the impacts of these changes on Africa’s biodiversity is, however, plagued by uncertainties, and markedly different results can be obtained from alternative bioclimatic envelope models or future climate projections. Using an ensemble forecasting framework, we examine projections of future shifts in climatic ...

Geographic shifts in climatically suitable areas and loss of genetic variability under climate change in a neotropical tree

Background Many species are expected to suffer a strong shift in geographic ranges due to climate changes in the next fifty years, depending on their ecological tolerance and current demographical parameters, which were in turn shaped by their evolutionary history. These shifts may also cause a change in genetic population structure and variability, because local extinctions or reduction in fit...

GABA Shunt in Durum Wheat

Plant responses to salinity are complex, especially when combined with other stresses, and involve many changes in gene expression and metabolic fluxes. Until now, plant stress studies have been mainly dealt only with a single stress approach. However, plants exposed to multiple stresses at the same time, a combinatorial approach reflecting real-world scenarios, show tailored responses complete...
